Advantages of Telephone & On-Line Counselling
For some people, Telephone and On-Line Counselling has advantages
over
face-to-face Counselling
- Face to Face contact could be intimidating for you
- Travel may not be easy due to perhaps a physical or mental disability
- You may be in an already stressed and anxious
state and cannot face leaving the security of your home.
- You do not wish other members of your family to know you are seeking help
- You may find the commitments of work or family leaves you with little spare time.
- You may live in a remote area where there are no Counsellors
- You may live overseas, and on-line Counselling via the internet does not incur call costs - Windows

Note: I do not offer crisis counselling, and
cannot respond to urgent requests, but I will always try to respond to any communication within 48 hours (longer at weekends)
How to set up Telephone Counselling:
The
first thing to do is to ring the Here To Listen Counselling Practice (Manchester) on 0161 7890547 or email
me online, to check that I am the right Counsellor for you, and that Telephone Counselling is the right form of Counselling
for you.
All Counselling is confidential.
You can ask any questions you want to about how the Telephone Counselling Service works. You can also email me for
information. Once we have agreed an initial
contract for Telephone Counselling, an arrangement will
be made for the first Telephone Counselling Session to occur at a pre-arranged date and time, this can be done in person
or online. You will be responsible for making the call (we use a standard rate landline number), if you
are unable to make the call at the time arranged, and you have not given 24 hours
notice of this, you will lose the booked session.
If you need to cancel, or rearrange a call time, 24
hours notice must be given to avoid the loss of the booked session. If we need to cancel
or rearrange the time or date, as much notice as possible will be given to
you, and you will be credited if an alternative time cannot be agreed.
Payment for each session must be received one week in advance of
the session if paying by cheque, if paying by credit, debit or switch card, the session can booked at the
earliest convenience of both parties.
At the end of the first session you can decide
whether or not you wish to continue with further sessions, and arrange the next date if you want to continue, this is also
the time to discuss how you feel about this method of counselling, and for us both to reassess if we feel comfortable working
together. If I feel that Telephone Counselling is not the best form of therapy for you, I will try and refer you to an alternative
form.
Calls can be booked for daytime or evening sessions, and you can choose a
30 minute session or 60 minute session.
If I feel it is in the best interests of the
client or myself, I reserve the right to cease Counselling work with that client, any monies outstanding will of course be
refunded.
How to set up On-Line Counselling:
Firstly, you will need
to make sure you have Windows Live Messenger installed on your computer, laptop or notebook. When you have paid for the
session as above, and arranged a mutually convenient time. You will then need to add my email address (which will be given
to you after the session has been booked) to your contacts list. You can simply then right click on my name when
you see that I am on-line, and select from the drop down menu > "call computer", I will then accept
the call, and providing there is nothing wrong with the connections at either end, and msn is working properly, everything
should go to plan. If not, the call can always be rearranged for another time, using email to communicate.
To use this system will need to have a microphone and speakers, which are often built-in, or you can buy
these very cheaply. You can also use your webcam for video Counselling.
