Females are emotional beings feeding off of anger, happiness, sadness and any other form of strong feelings, like love. As a result of this, women are the ones that experience depression more than men, which is often the reason why they often get misunderstood.
Here are some of the reasons why they get depressed:
PHYSIOLOGICAL AND HORMONAL Premenstrual conditions- Although every woman has monthly menstruation, the effects of the hormonal fluctuation during those times vary from person to person.
Infertility and pregnancy- The rush of hormones during pregnancy sometimes cause depression in most women, especially high-risk women. Other issues such as unwanted pregnancy and miscarriage can also cause emotional disturbance.
Postpartum depression- When a woman gets pregnant, a lot of hormones are created for her, as well as the foetus inside of her. But when the baby leaves the womb, there is a sudden depletion of hormones. The change leaves the mother confused and depressed; this normally subsides after a few weeks, but some women never recover from it.
PSYCHOLOGICAL AND EMOTIONALFocusing on negative feelings and resurfacing them - Women ruminate when they are depressed: thinking about why they are feeling the way they are feeling, talking to their friends about their heartache and reflecting, to the point of over-thinking, what they could have done to deserve it.
Stress- Women in their natural, tired self are depressed. Studies show that the female hormones create more stress hormones than males do. Furthermore, progesterone is incapable of turning off stress hormones unlike the male sex hormone.
Physical looks issues- Unlike men, women are more pressured to look pristine and spotless due to the tons of exposure to magazines with extremely attractive models.
